Lecture meetings are held at 2.00pm on the first and third Thursdays in each month from September to July, afterwards there is tea/coffee and biscuits and a chance to catchup with our members.

04th September 2.00pm Michelle Lewis 'The Pavement that Walked'
A tale of Archaeological discovery, unbelievable theft and mystery.
 Michelle Lewis has taught students from 4 year olds up to University graduates. In between she hasmade forays into film, broadcasting and print, sometimes even being paid for the privilage.
18th September 2.00pm Kevin Byron ‘Geometry in Art and Ornament’ Kevin Byron will explore the origins of Paleolithic art and ornament and then will discuss the two great cultures - Celtic and Islamic - that took geometry as ornament to its limit. Examples of a secret language using geometric design are discussed, and short videos are included showing how Celtic and Islamic decorative art forms are created. Finally, the talk will discuss how and why geometry started to appear in abstract art rather in the 20th century.
02nd October 2.00pm Malcolm Brooke Yorkshires Vanishing Coastline Malcolm Brooke was a teacher and Head Teacher with the MoD and a regular speaker for u3a’s.
16th October 2.00pm Chris Speck Thrilling Novels set in the East Riding An author who bases his stories in Hull and the East Riding.
06th November 2.00pm John Wilson The Humber Estuary Back by popular demand, one of our members who has given a number of interesting and entertaining talks on a range of topics.
20th November 2.00pm  Neil Bowerman Introduction to the Institute of Advanced Motoring.  Neil Bowerman is a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. He is aLocal Observer, Coaching and training Associate Members to pass the test and qualified as a National Observer in 2024
(Local Obervers, focus on helping individuals in their group learn to drive / ride to an advanced standard
National Obervers also do this, but also help train and assess the Local Observers themselves.)

02nd April 2.00pm  David Hardcastle  The Mobile Police Museum  Retired west Yorkshire Police Constable David Hardcastle tells the story of UK policing using his Mobile Police Museum. With a collection of uniforms, helmets, hats, handcuffs and truncheons. His talk covers 120 years of Policing from the Victorian Period onwards.
16th April 2.00pm  Michelle Lewis  The Tranby Affair. (or 'The Royal Baccarat Scandal')  Find out about the Tranby Affair, an event that happened in 1890 at the home of Sir Arthur Wilson, a British Naval Officer.

04th June 2.00pm  Chris Cade  Arthur Walker's Great War.  Presentation by Chris Cade of Arthur Walker, a Yorkshire veterans journey from recruitment to his fighting in the trenches and captivity.

It Only Hurts When I Laugh
 The talk covers the formation of the NHS and goes on to look at some of the developments in healthcare over the last 70 years.
